Working Groups & Objectives

Working Group I: Resources Mobilization

In order for CCA's HIV/AIDS Initiative to move forward, a concerted effort to increase funding is required. This working group will assist CCA staff to identify and target funding opportunities and develop strategic approaches and funding proposals to assure immediate and longer-term financial support for the work of the HIV/AIDS Initiative.

Objective: Develop and sustain resource flows to the CCA HIV/AIDS Initiative

  • Articulate a development strategy/plan
  • Identify potential resources including foundations, corporate funds, and public resources (e.g. PEPFAR, AFDB, IFC, World Bank)

Working Group II: Workplace Programs

This working group will seek ways to engage small and medium size companies, as well as distributors and distribution networks, healthcare and insurance providers, marketing firms, and information and applied technology companies in adopting HIV/AIDS workplace policies. Also, it will address the need for management training of public officials and private sector HR leaders in the development and implementation of prevention care and treatment programs for HIV/AIDS for both acute and chronic strategies.

Objective: Identify and market best practices for HIV/AIDS workplace programs

  • Articulate sector specific programs and practices

Working Group III: Communication and Collaboration

This working group will explore ways to further inform public and private sector entities on the work of the HIV/AIDS Initiative through the establishments of direct links with other member's website; furthermore, communication avenues other than websites and electronic information to attract participants will be explored. This will be an opportunity to solicit the collaboration of the various organizations involved in HIV/AIDS and healthcare including the Global Business Coalition, The Global Fund and the Global Health Initiative. This work group will oversee the updating of the 2001 HIV/AIDS Task Force Report. It is anticipated that Committee Members, CCA staff and CCA members will contribute to the 2006 Report.

Objective: Develop a strategic plan to enhance collaboration across sectors and among
partners (private, public, local, national and international)

  • Articulate a communication and marketing strategy for CCA HIV/AIDS Initiative to enhance member participation and collaboration
  • Identify opportunities for cross sector/programmatic collaboration and integration of public-private partnership addressing HIV/AIDS and or health care delivery in Africa

Action steps: Develop a timeline and benchmarks for the communication and collaboration objectives. Determine working group role and responsibilities

Working Group IV: Brokering Local Level Partnerships and Programmatic Linkages

Here, the goal will be to educate the private sector on the value of investments in worker health, CSR portfolios, and to identify strategies for leveraging resources (fiscal and human) for long-term health management and corporate productivity. This working group will also explore opportunities to expand CCA's HIV/AIDS Committee activities to include brokering public-private partnerships at the country level and linkages to ongoing public and private HIV/AIDS health initiatives.

Objective: Link national and organizational objectives/health care goals to local partners to assure comprehensive access and delivery of services

  • Develop strategic approach to assure funding, technical assistance and linkage to “on the ground services” for public-private HIV/AIDS partnerships at the local level
