Corporate Task Force Report on HIV/AIDS in
Sub-Saharan Africa
 |
The
Corporate Council on Africa is proud to release its Corporate Task Force Report on HIV/AIDS in
Sub-Saharan Africa. This report marks the first
time that American businesses active in Africa have
collectively made substantive policy recommendations to the
U.S. government and other businesses on how to address the
HIV/AIDS pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa which is estimated to
have affected 28.1 million people in this region by the end of
2001.
This Task
Force report presents the experience and views of the 20
corporations who comprised the Corporate Council on Africa’s
Task Force on AIDS in Africa. It represents a substantive
contribution to the practical steps that are needed to fight
this pandemic. Moreover, the report is an acknowledgement by
the private sector of the gravity of the HIV/AIDS crisis and
the need to take action. It contains concrete HIV/AIDS
strategy recommendations for all companies doing business in
Africa, whether or not they are members of our Council. Every
business must decide for itself how best to participate
effectively in addressing this crisis. However, information
sharing, awareness of best practices, and instances of leading
by example are important elements in marshalling efforts and
resources, and this report is a first step in this
process.
