On Monday, April 29th, CCA's Nigeria Working Group
met with Dr. Magnus Kpakol, chief economic advisor to
Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, as well as Chief
Kola Daisi, chairman of the newly restructured Nigeria
Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC). NIPC is the
official commercial investment promotion and development
arm of the Nigerian Government.
Kpakol and Daisi briefed CCA members on key issues in
Nigerian economic and commercial policy and highlighted
available investment opportunities. Kpakol replaced
Chief Phillip Asiodu in the summer of 2001. The meeting
marked Kpakol's first with members of the American
private sector in Washington. Nigeria Working Group
chairman Ambassador (ret) William Twaddell moderated the
roundtable.
CCA members in attendance included ExxonMobil, Cooper
Cameron, GoodWorks International, TechnoServe and MSI
Inc.
The Nigeria Working Group, chaired by former U.S.
Ambassador to Nigeria William H. Twaddell, engages CCA
members and policymakers on issues that affect
commercial relations with Nigeria. The Working Group
seeks to create a valuable forum for the exchange of
ideas and the establishment of a common agenda for CCA
and its Nigerian private sector counterparts. The
Nigeria Working Group frequently meets with key American
and Nigerian Government officials, multilateral groups,
and business leaders to discuss relevant policy and
business issues. CCA has hosted on several occasions
President Olusegun Obasanjo and Vice President Atiku
Abubakar for dinners and events in the U.S. and Nigeria.
